The work of Constance Short has investigated ideas concerning the political nature of art making and the aesthetic function of the artists, since the nineteen sixties. Her involvement and collaboration with other artists have had significant historical repercussions in the process of evolving a more open society, wherein the arts could function not as decoration, but as an integral element of social change. Ciaran Bennett, Member of the International association of art critics, writer, curator and cultural commentator - 2005 Ciaran Bennett is writing a book on Constance Short
Constance Short isn't governed by conventional norms, and creates compelling perspectives. As an artist, campaigner, and commentator, Constance's work embodies a deep seated spirit of exploration and ingenuity which is combined with an invigorating openness and honesty. "Constance Short's work as an artist mirrors her priorities as a person. She is committed to her work and to the message contained within. Not for her the easy life of introspection and vain musings; rather, her voice is straight and forthright, and is committed to paper and canvas with skill, abandon and joy. Louth County Council is proud to have a number of her pieces in the County Council's Art Collection." 2005 BRIAN HARTEN, ARTS OFFICER LOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL
